Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Rate in the Blue Nile River Basin of Ethiopia

نویسندگان

چکیده

Substantial runoff is a feature of the Ethiopian Nile River Basin because its soils are erodible and poorly organized, resulting in high soil loss sedimentation rates. The rate erosion basin was reported to be quite variable, which could owing methodology utilized data quality used. By reviewing recent studies, this review primarily aimed give information on range Recent studies at small watersheds levels were reviewed. Soil rates Ethiopia's Blue ranged from 16 67.37ton ha-1 year-1 4.2 18ton year-1, respectively. Similarly, level 8.25 100ton 1.1 43.34ton Hence it concluded that serious problems basin. So, appropriate water conservation measures recommended throughout reduce both on-site off-site effects erosion. It also highly advised utilize uniform techniques common source for estimation different levels.

Modeling of Soil Erosion and Sediment Transport in the Blue Nile Basin using the Open Model Interface Approach Modeling of soil erosion and sediment transport in the Blue Nile Basin using the Open Model Interface Approach

Rapid land use change due to intensive agricultural practices in the Ethiopian Highlands, results in increasing rates of soil erosion. This manifested in significant impacts downstream by reducing the storage capacity of reservoirs (e.g., Roseires, Sennar), and high desilting costs of irrigation canals. Therefore, this paper aims to provide a better understanding of the process at basin scale. ...

Hydrological Response to Climate Change for Gilgel Abay River, in the Lake Tana Basin - Upper Blue Nile Basin of Ethiopia

Climate change is likely to have severe effects on water availability in Ethiopia. The aim of the present study was to assess the impact of climate change on the Gilgel Abay River, Upper Blue Nile Basin. The Statistical Downscaling Tool (SDSM) was used to downscale the HadCM3 (Hadley centre Climate Model 3) Global Circulation Model (GCM) scenario data into finer scale resolution. The Soil and W...
