Soil carbon stock in balsa wood after fertilization strategies

چکیده
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate whether balsa wood plantation and its fertilization can improve soil carbon stocks. Total stocks in the soil-biomass system, at 0.0-0.30 m depths, were evaluated under three strategies, after seven years, compared with from native forest degraded pasture. At highest level, showed a stock similar that (65.38 Mg ha-1) and, it increased by 18% soil, 42% system.

Effects of Wood Ash Fertilization on Forest Soil Chemical Properties
The effects of wood ash fertilization on soil chemical properties were studied in three young Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) plantations and a Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) plantation with different site fertility in southern Finland. The dose of 3 t ha–1 of loose wood ash was applied to 4 replicate plots (25 × 25 m) at each experiment. Humus layer and mineral soil samples were take...
متن کاملDifferences in Chemical Composition of Soil Organic Carbon Resulting From Long-Term Fertilization Strategies
Chemical composition of soil organic carbon (SOC) is central to soil fertility. We hypothesize that change in SOC content resulting from various long-term fertilization strategies accompanies the shift in SOC chemical structure. This study examined the effect of fertilization strategies along with the time of fertilizer application on the SOC composition by 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) ...
متن کاملHarvested Wood Products: Forest Carbon after Harvest
The forest sector represents a large source of income for Canadians. In 2013, the forest sector contributed $19.2 billion or 1.25% of Canada’s GDP [1]. Harvested wood products (HWPs), which are manufactured using wood harvested from forests, have also made headlines recently, with the world’s tallest wood building at 18 storeys having completed construction at the University of British Columbia...
متن کاملThe myth of nitrogen fertilization for soil carbon sequestration.
Intensive use of N fertilizers in modern agriculture is motivated by the economic value of high grain yields and is generally perceived to sequester soil organic C by increasing the input of crop residues. This perception is at odds with a century of soil organic C data reported herein for the Morrow Plots, the world's oldest experimental site under continuous corn (Zea mays L.). After 40 to 50...
متن کاملModelling tillage and nitrogen fertilization effects on soil organic carbon
1 Agricultural management plays an important role in global warming mitigation due to 2 its effects on soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics. In Mediterranean agroecosystems, 3 the interactive effects of tillage and N fertilization on SOC storage have scarcely been 4 studied. Hence, we here present a modelling study in which the effects of both tillage 5 and N fertilization on SOC dynamics are inv...
