Soil Biodiversity as Affected by Different Thinning Intensities in a Pinus laricio Stand of Calabrian Apennine, South Italy

چکیده

Forest soil biodiversity, which drives natural ecosystem multifunctionality, can be altered by incorrect forestry management practices. Pinus laricio is the most representative and widespread conifer species in Calabria, South Italy, appropriate needed to maintain forest for its great economic value. In Europe, thinning considered effective silvicultural treatment maintain/increase ecological value of coniferous stands. this study, moderate (MT), intense (HT), clear cut (CC) treatments were used manage stands with aim identifying intensity that less detrimental biodiversity. The effects different intensities evaluated, two contrasting seasons (summer winter), on abundance, diversity arthropods, fungi, bacteria colonies as well selected properties (organic matter, humification index, bulk density, pH) related habitability. Results evidenced richness, colonies, properties, changed seasons. Under HT, greatest biodiversity highest amounts found both This study finds evidence Connell’s intermediate disturbance hypothesis, highlighting organic carbon content lowest HT reduced likelihood competitive exclusion between occurring species, thereby promoting high richness diversity. gives insights into relationships understory composition tree abundance community.

Stand-level allometry in Pinus taeda as affected by irrigation and fertilization.

Changing environmental conditions have the potential to alter allometric relationships between plant parts, possibly leading to ecosystem-level feedbacks. We quantified allometric shifts in field-grown loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) in response to altered resource availability based on data from multiple harvests to correct for size-related changes in biomass partitioning. A replicated factoria...

Controlling Factors of Soil CO2 Efflux in Pinus yunnanensis across Different Stand Ages

The characteristics of soil respiration (Rs) across different stand ages have not been well investigated. In this study, we identified temporal variation of Rs and its driving factors under three nature forest stands (e.g. 15-yr-old, 30-yr-old, and 45-yr-old) of Pinus yunnanensis in the Plateau of Mid-Yunnan, China. No consistent tendency was found on the change of Rs with the stand ages. Rs wa...

dry matter accumulation and partitioning as affected by thinning in a non-prolific maize hybrid

the objective of the present field experiment was to examine how plant density and enhanced source, i.e. thinning treatments, may affect grain yield and its components for a non-prolific maize hybrid, sc704. the environment of the hybrid maize crop was changed at intervals over its life cycle by removing every other plant in rows equispaced at 75 cm apart with a population of 13.34 plants m...

A revision of the 1783–1784 Calabrian (southern Italy) tsunamis

Southern Italy is one of the most tsunamigenic areas in the Mediterranean basin, having experienced during centuries a large number of tsunamis, some of which very destructive. In particular, the most exposed zone here is the Messina Straits separating the coasts of Calabria and Sicily that was the theatre of the strongest Italian events. In 1783– 1785 Calabria was shaken by the most violent an...
