Social complexity and core-periphery relationships in an Andean Formative ceremonial centre: domestic occupation at Chavín de Huántar

چکیده

The site of Chavín de Huántar, Peru, lies at the heart developing social complexity in Andean Formative period. archaeological contexts on site's immediate periphery are assessed to investigate nature occupation, activities practised, and relationships between area's inhabitants Chavín's ceremonial centre. peripheral Wacheqsa sector, which began as a modest, domestic occupation second millennium BC, was reconfigured c . 800 cal BC into more substantial settlement, perhaps inhabited by craftspeople producing artefacts for authorities. implications this study relevant wider questions regarding monumental centres their peripheries, early socio-economic complexity.
