چکیده
This paper presents the design and performance of UAH-78AM, a low-power small Hall effect thruster. The goal this work is to assess feasibility using low-cost 3D printing create functioning thrusters, study how can expand space. thruster features printed discharge channel with embedded propellant distributor. Multiple materials were tested including ABS, ULTEM, glazed ceramic. Thrust measurements obtained at NASA Glenn Research Center. Measured thrust ranged from 17.2–30.4 mN over power 280 W 520 an anode ISP range 870–1450 s. has similar conventional thrusters same levels. However, polymer ABS ULTEM have low temperature limits which made sustained operation difficult.

Design and Testing of a Hall Effect Thruster with 3 D Printed Channel and Propellant Distributor
The UAH-78AM is a low-power Hall effect thruster developed at the University of Alabama in Huntsville with channel walls and a propellant distributor manufactured using 3D printing. The goal of this project is to assess the feasibility of using unconventional materials to produce a low-cost functioning Hall effect thruster and consider how additive manufacturing can expand the design space and ...
متن کاملHall-effect Thruster Channel Surface Properties Investigation
Surface properties of Hall-effect thruster channel walls play an important role in the performance and lifetime of the device. Physical models of near-wall effects are beginning to be incorporated into thruster simulations, and these models must account for evolution of channel surface properties due to thruster operation. Results from this study show differences in boron nitride channel surfac...
متن کاملPlasma Potential Measurements in the Discharge Channel of a 6-kW Hall Thruster
In an effort to understand the role of neutral flow dynamics in the operation of Hall thrusters, a floating emissive probe was used to measure the plasma potential, electric field, and electron temperature in the discharge channel of a 6-kW Hall thruster operating at 300 V and anode flow rates of 10, 20, and 30 mg/s. To isolate the effect of propellant flow rate, the cathode flow fraction and m...

متن کاملConstant-Power Performance and Plume Measurements of a Nested-Channel Hall-Effect Thruster
The X2 nested-channel Hall-effect thruster has been operated at constant discharge powers of 5 kW and 6 kW. Thrust measurements showed that improved performance over an extended range of specific impulse can be obtained by transitions between operating modes of the X2. The simultaneous operation of both channels provided the best performance at low specific impulse, where higher mass flow rates...
