Abstract We study the impact of an exchange-reducing defect on a skyrmion in thin film finite thickness. Attraction to is demonstrated lattice model by computing micromagnetic energy accounting for exchange, Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction, magnetic anisotropy, and dipole–dipole coupling. The spiraling dynamics toward illustrated solving numerically full Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert equations and, independently, Thiele equation, with two methods agreement each other. Depinning current investigated. find that deforms when it close defect. Deformation small parameter space far from phase boundary determines stability skyrmions. It increases dramatically near boundary, leading transformation into snake-like domain.
