Size-Controlling Cherry Rootstock Selection Based on Root Anatomical Characteristics

چکیده

Over the past few decades, numerous studies investigated vigor and productivity of fruit species depending on rootstock which they were grafted, but exact size-controlling mechanism itself has not been fully elucidated, nor rapid selection methods defined. Thus, this study aimed to assess root anatomical characteristics their influence overall ‘Summit’ cherry tree confirm effect establish an effective protocol for selection. Plant material included three (Prunus cerasus, Prunus fruticosa, mahaleb) interspecific hybrid ‘Gisela 5′ (P. cerasus × canescens) as a control. The detailed analysis samples with differentiated secondary structure taken from sampling depth 10–15 cm. Roots percentages vessels ≈40%, ≈50%, ≈10% belonging size-classes ˂700 µm2, 700–2000 μm2, ˃2000 µm2 (respectively) are presumed provide optimal amounts water solution scion, without compromising plant vitality, drought tolerance, effect. Statistically significant correlations determined between properties (the percentage vessels, especially xylem porosity, hydraulic conductivity, both per mm2 total root) vegetative growth in juvenile phase, indicating direct vessel size its employment

Physiological Efficiency of Grafted Cucumbers based on Rootstock Type, Root Zone Temperature and Nitrogen Levels

To evaluate the commercial and local cucumber rootstocks in grafting conditions at different nitrogen (N) levels and temperatures of the rootzone, this research was conducted for a year in the Research Greenhouse of the Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, Isfahan University of Technology in 2014. The research was a factorial experiment based on completely randomized design with ...

Interactions between rootstock, inter-stem and scion xylem vessel characteristics of peach trees growing on rootstocks with contrasting size-controlling characteristics

BACKGROUND AND AIMS The primary physiological mechanism influencing tree vigour in size-controlling rootstocks of peach has been related to the hydraulic conductance of the rootstock. Differences in rootstock hydraulic conductance are a function of rootstock xylem vessel characteristics. The present research examined whether the vigour and xylem vessel characteristics of the rootstock influence...

Behavior of Some Sweet Cherry Cultivars on Mazzard Rootstock on Heavy and Acidic Soil

Over 60% Serbian soils are heavy, shallow and acidic, especially in west part of this country. Basically, Serbian fruit production is mainly represented in these conditions which are not favorable for intensive fruit growing. However, repair of these soils is a long and very expensive process. Regarding to this, one of the real ways to overcome this problem faster and cheaper is to grow toleran...

Influence of Rootstock on the Mineral Concentrations of Flowers and Leaves from Sweet Cherry

The influence of rootstock on the mineral composition of scion leaves of fruit trees is generally accepted. The present work was carried out to corroborate if this influence is also evident for the mineral nutrient concentrations in flowers. The study was made in an experimental orchard of sweet cherry (Prunus avium, L. cv. ‘Van’) grafted on three rootstocks: Adara, SL 64 and Cok. Flowers and l...

Biological Control of Crown Gall on Peach and Cherry Rootstock Colt by Native Agrobacterium radiobacter Isolates

Crown gall caused by Agrobacterium tumefaciens is the major limiting factor in raising healthy stone fruit plants in nurseries. The incidence of crown gall varies from 4 to 97.5 per cent at different locations resulting in out right rejection of an average of 30 per cent stone fruit plants in nurseries. Agrobacterium radiobacter strain K-84 has been reported to provide nearly complete control o...
