Single-spin resonance in a van der Waals embedded paramagnetic defect

چکیده

Spins constitute a group of quantum objects forming key resource in modern technology. Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals materials are fundamental interest for studying nanoscale magnetic phenomena. However, isolating singular paramagnetic spins 2D systems is challenging. We report here on emitting source embedded within hexgonal boron nitride (h-BN) exhibiting optical resonance (ODMR). extract an isotropic $g$ factor close to 2 and derive upper bound zero field splitting (ZFS) ($\leq$ 4 MHz). Photoluminescence (PL) behavior under temperature cycling using different excitations presented, assigning probable phonon lines (ZPLs) / side band (PSBs) emission peaks, compatible with h-BN's density states, indicating their intrinsic nature. Narrow inhomogeneous broadened ODMR differ significantly from monoatomic vacancy defect known literature. hyperfine coupling around 10 MHz. Its angular dependence indicates unpaired electron out-of-plane $\pi$-orbital, probably originating additional substitutional carbon impurity or other low mass atom. determine the spin relaxation time $T_1$ be 17 $\mu$s.

The van der Waals interaction

The interaction between charged particles via the Coulomb interaction is one of the most important features in physics and is familiar to any student of the subject. The way in which electrons and protons bind to form the hydrogen atom is also well known and is a staple of any quantum mechanics course. However, less familiar is the interaction between such bound systems at separation R, which i...

Dynamic van der Waals theory.

We present a dynamic van der Waals theory starting with entropy and energy functional with gradient contributions. The resultant hydrodynamic equations contain the stress arising from the density gradient. It provides a general scheme of two-phase hydrodynamics involving the gas-liquid transition in nonuniform temperature. Some complex hydrodynamic processes with evaporation and condensation ar...

Nuclear spin-spin coupling in a van der Waals-bonded system: xenon dimer.

Nuclear spin-spin coupling over van der Waals bond has recently been observed via the frequency shift of solute protons in a solution containing optically hyperpolarized (129)Xe nuclei. We carry out a first-principles computational study of the prototypic van der Waals-bonded xenon dimer, where the spin-spin coupling between two magnetically non-equivalent isotopes, J((129)Xe - (131)Xe), is obs...

Supercurrent in van der Waals Josephson junction.

Supercurrent flow between two superconductors with different order parameters, a phenomenon known as the Josephson effect, can be achieved by inserting a non-superconducting material between two superconductors to decouple their wavefunctions. These Josephson junctions have been employed in fields ranging from digital to quantum electronics, yet their functionality is limited by the interface q...

Ripplocations in van der Waals layers.

Dislocations are topological line defects in three-dimensional crystals. Same-sign dislocations repel according to Frank's rule |b1 + b2|(2) > |b1|(2) + |b2|(2). This rule is broken for dislocations in van der Waals (vdW) layers, which possess crystallographic Burgers vector as ordinary dislocations but feature "surface ripples" due to the ease of bending and weak vdW adhesion of the atomic lay...
