Characterization of Arsenate-for-sulfate Substitution in Synthetic Jarosite Using X-ray Diffraction and X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy
Arsenic-bearing synthetic jarosite [KFe3(SO4)2(OH)6] was characterized to elucidate the form of the arsenic. The XANES spectra indicate that the As occurs exclusively as As5+, nominally as AsO4, consistent with the valence state of the arsenic in the reagents used for the syntheses. X-ray-diffraction analyses show that at least 9.9 wt.% AsO4 can be structurally incorporated in the jarosite. Cel...
متن کاملX-ray single crystal and powder diffraction: possibilities and applications
In this article the main possibilities of single crystal and powder diffraction analysis using conventional laboratory x-ray sources are introduced. Several examples of applications with different solid samples and in different fields of applications are shown illustrating the multidisciplinary capabilities of both techniques. Handbook of instrumental techniques from CCiTUB X-ray single crystal...
متن کاملCrystal structure of Ni-sorbed synthetic vernadite: A powder X-ray diffraction study
15 16 Vernadite is a nanocrystalline turbostratic phyllomanganate ubiquitous in the environment, 17 which contains nickel in specific settings such as oceanic sediments. To improve our 18 understanding of nickel uptake in this mineral, two series of synthetic analogs to vernadite (δ19 MnO2) were prepared with Ni/Mn atomic ratios ranging from 0.002 to 0.105 at pH 4 and from 20 0.002 to 0.177 at ...
متن کاملX-ray Diffraction Studies of Synthetic Polysaccharides*
In the present paper are described experiments with synthetic polysaccharides prepared with muscle, heart, and liver phosphorylase. As judged by solubility properties and iodine colorations, the muscle enzyme synthesizes a polysaccharide in vitro which resembles plant starches, while the heart and liver enzymes synthesize a polysaccharide which resembles glycogen (1). It will be shown below tha...
