چکیده

Abstract Fruit juice industry wastewater is characterized by high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and low pH, which requires extensive energy if treated aerobically can adversely affect aquatic organisms discharged into water bodies without proper treatment. In this study, purple non-sulfur bacteria (PNSB) were employed to recover carbon through photoanaerobic treatment in the form of single-cell protein (SCP) suitable for aquaculture rich carotenoid bacteriochlorophyll photopigments. The efficacy PNSB was investigated using two types wastewaters, citrus (CJW), mixed (MJW) as substrates at different pH conditions (5.0–8.0). 8.0 showed highest COD removal CJW (89 ± 0.1%) 7.0 MJW (94 1%), respectively. biomass yields 0.493 g-VSS·g-COD −1 0.397 MJW. SCP contents 48 1% 40 3%, Pigment analysis revealed that contained carotenoids bacteriochlorophyll. Carotenoids 1354 64 µg·g 1558 218 biomass; 2097 110 3100 614 biomass, microbial population diversity among conditions, with comprising potentially up 51% microbes culture. results demonstrate could be used potential mediators treat fruit wastewater, produce SCP, photopigments simultaneously.

Detection of Purple Sulfur Bacteria in Purple and Non-purple Dairy Wastewaters.

The presence of purple bacteria in manure storage lagoons is often associated with reduced odors. In this study, our objectives were to determine the occurrence of purple sulfur bacteria (PSB) in seven dairy wastewater lagoons and to identify possible linkages between wastewater properties and purple blooms. Community DNA was extracted from composited wastewater samples, and a conservative 16S ...

Modeling the electron transport chain of purple non-sulfur bacteria

Purple non-sulfur bacteria (Rhodospirillaceae) have been extensively employed for studying principles of photosynthetic and respiratory electron transport phosphorylation and for investigating the regulation of gene expression in response to redox signals. Here, we use mathematical modeling to evaluate the steady-state behavior of the electron transport chain (ETC) in these bacteria under diffe...

Bistablity in Fluorescence from a purple non-sulfur bacteria

Bistable optical emission has been observed for photosynthetic purple non-sulfur bacteria Rhodobacter capsulatus SB1003. The microbes respond to UV excitation (at 395nm) in a bifurcating way one branch corresponding to increase and the other corresponding to diminishing fluorescent emission in the range 590-685nm.The switching between such bifurcating branches can be observed when parameters li...
