Simulation-based framework to evaluate resistivity of cooling strategies in buildings against overheating impact of climate change

Over the last decades overheating in buildings has become a major concern. The situation is expected to worsen due current rate of climate change. Many efforts have been made evaluate future thermal performance and cooling technologies. In this paper, term “climate change resistivity” strategies defined, calculation method provided. A comprehensive simulation-based framework then introduced, enabling evaluation wide range active passive strategies. based on Indoor Overheating Degree (IOD), Ambient Warmness (AWD), Climate Change Resistivity (CCOR) as principal indicators allowing multi-zonal approach quantification indoor risk resistivity To test proposed framework, two air-based including Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) unit coupled with Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) (C01) Volume (VAV) system (C02) are compared six different locations/climates. case study shoe box model representing double-zone office building. general, C01 shows higher CCOR values between 2.04 19.16 than C02 locations. Therefore, superior impact C02. maximum value 37.46 resulted for Brussels, most resistant case, whereas minimum 9.24 achieved Toronto, least case.
