چکیده

We introduce a simplified fabrication technique for Josephson junctions and demonstrate superconducting Xmon qubits with $T_1$ relaxation times averaging above 50$~\mu$s ($Q>$1.5$\times$ 10$^6$). Current shadow-evaporation techniques aluminum-based require separate lithography step to deposit patch that makes galvanic, connection between the junction electrodes circuit wiring layer. The eliminates parasitic junctions, which otherwise contribute significantly dielectric loss. In our patch-integrated cross-type (PICT) technique, we use one vacuum cycle evaporate both patch. study of more than 3600 show an average resistance variation 3.7$\%$ on wafer contains forty 0.5$\times$0.5-cm$^2$ chips, areas ranging 0.01 0.16 $\mu$m$^2$. on-chip spread in is 2.7$\%$, 20 chips varying 1.4 2$\%$. For sizes used transmon qubits, deduce wafer-level transition-frequency 1.7-2.5$\%$. 60-70$\%$ this attributed junction-area fluctuations, while rest caused by tunnel-junction inhomogeneity. Such high frequency predictability requirement scaling-up number quantum computer.

Spectroscopy of capacitively coupled Josephson-junction qubits

We show that two capacitively coupled Josephson junctions, in the quantum limit, form a simple coupled qubit system with effective coupling controlled by the junction bias currents. We compute numerically the energy levels and wave functions for the system, and show how these may be tuned to make optimal qubits. The dependence of the energy levels on the parameters can be measured spectroscopic...

Josephson-Junction Qubits: Entanglement and Coherence

Since our previous article, " Quantum Computing with rf SQUIDs " , which appeared about four years ago in The Photon, we have made changes in our primary approach to the use of superconducting elements as qubits. Now we are focusing on single Josephson junctions as qubits, an idea that was suggested by members of our research group. 1 The qubit (quantum bit) of a quantum computer differs from t...

CMOS compatible fabrication methods for submicron josephson junction qubits - Science, Measurement and Technology, IEE Proceedings-

The authors have developed two distinct processes for the fabrication of mesoscopic Josephson junction qubits that are compatible with conventional CMOS processing. These devices, based on superconducting Al/A1203/AI tunnel junctions, are fabricated by electron beam lithography using single-layer and multi-layer resists. The new single-layer resist process is found to have significant advantage...

Josephson Junction Materials Research Using Phase Qubits

At present, the performance of superconducting qubits is limited by decoherence. Strong decoherence of phase qubits is associated with spurious microwave resonators residing within the Josephson junction tunnel barrier [1]. In this work, we investigate three different fabrication techniques for producing tunnel junctions that vary the properties of the superconductor-insulator interface. Throug...
