Silver fir growth responses to drought depend on interactions between tree characteristics, soil and neighbourhood features

چکیده
Mixed forests are expected to be more productive and resilient against disturbances than pure forests. However, tree interactions complex vary depending on characteristics multiple site features including soil properties. Such complexity is not normally accounted for in studies of mixing effects response drought. Here, we evaluate if neighbourhood identity influence biotic abiotic three mature, mixed Silver fir (Abies alba) Further, investigate the relationships between radial growth drought, (growth rate, size competition pressure), neighbourhood, physico-chemical biological Patterns covariation size, pressure, microbial composition, recovery after drought were observed among different types. Slow-growing, small trees experiencing high competitive pressure associated with higher proportions Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) C:N ratios, showed a faster A dominated by broadleaf species (mainly European beech, Fagus sylvatica) was biomass arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, low Gram-positive bacteria Eukaryote, together lower recovery. Therefore, coexistence other fir, or beech patterns tree, performance variables target trees. Finally, our study remarks that combining neighbour at individual level helps understand under stand mixtures.

Above- and belowground responses to tree thinning depend on the treatment of tree debris
Mechanical mastication is increasingly prescribed for wildfire mitigation, yet little is known about the ecological impacts of this fuels treatment. Mastication shreds trees into woodchips as an alternative to tree thinning and burning the resulting slash, which can create soil disturbances that favor exotic plants. Previous research on mastication has not simultaneously considered both the res...
متن کاملImpact of silver ions and silver nanoparticles on the plant growth and soil microorganisms
There is a growing consumer market for products that proclaim to decrease microorganism counts to prevent infections. Most of these products are loaded with silver in its ionic or nanoparticle form. Through use or during production, these particles can find their way into the soil and cause an impact in microbial and plant communities. This study aims to evaluate the impact of silver based part...
متن کاملTree-growth analyses to estimate tree species' drought tolerance.
Climate change is challenging forestry management and practices. Among other things, tree species with the ability to cope with more extreme climate conditions have to be identified. However, while environmental factors may severely limit tree growth or even cause tree death, assessing a tree species' potential for surviving future aggravated environmental conditions is rather demanding. The ai...
متن کاملPhysiological responses of two wheat cultivars to soil drought.
Young plants of the two wheat cultivars Katya and Prelom, differing in their reaction to drought in the field, were grown in soil in pots, and their water status was assessed as well as the intensity of gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence, and accumulation of compatible solutes and hydrogen peroxide after 7 days of dehydration. It was established that cv. Katya displayed markedly better tole...
