چکیده

A comparative study of the microscopic morphology and chemical characteristics spicules Hexactinellids (Hexactinellida) with different structural features skeletons, as well freshwater Baikal sponge belonging to class common sponges (Demospongia), was carried out. The trace element composition determined by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. siliceous contain many elements, arranged in decreasing order concentration: Si, Ca, Fe, Cl, K, Zn, others. It shown that surface layer sea contains mainly carbon (C), oxygen (O), a lesser extent nitrogen (N), silicon (Si), sodium (Na). studied can be divided into two groups according phase composition, namely one containing crystalline calcium compounds without them. Analysis infrared absorption spectra allows us conclude Euplectella aspergillum, E. suberia Dactylocalyx sp. silica partially bound organic matrix, while skeleton other group (Schulzeviella gigas, Sericolophus sp., Asconema setubalense, Sarostegia oculata, Farrea Lubomirskia baicalensis sp.) practically does not differ from precipitated SiO2. This skeletons marine there are no fundamental differences spicules, all them used starting material for creating new composite silicon–organic functional materials.

Anti-Biofilm Compounds Derived from Marine Sponges

Bacterial biofilms are surface-attached communities of microorganisms that are protected by an extracellular matrix of biomolecules. In the biofilm state, bacteria are significantly more resistant to external assault, including attack by antibiotics. In their native environment, bacterial biofilms underpin costly biofouling that wreaks havoc on shipping, utilities, and offshore industry. Within...

Antiviral Lead Compounds from Marine Sponges

Marine sponges are currently one of the richest sources of pharmacologically active compounds found in the marine environment. These bioactive molecules are often secondary metabolites, whose main function is to enable and/or modulate cellular communication and defense. They are usually produced by functional enzyme clusters in sponges and/or their associated symbiotic microorganisms. Natural p...

Cytotoxic Compounds Derived from Marine Sponges. A Review (2010-2012).

Abstract: This extensive review covers research published between 2010 and 2012 regarding new compounds derived from marine sponges, including 62 species from 60 genera belonging to 33 families and 13 orders of the Demospongia class (Porifera). The emphasis is on the cytotoxic activity that bioactive metabolites from sponges may have on cancer cell lines. At least 197 novel chemical structures ...

Bioactive volatile organic compounds from Antarctic (sponges) bacteria.

Antarctic bacteria represent a reservoir of unexplored biodiversity, which, in turn, might be correlated to the synthesis of still undescribed bioactive molecules, such as antibiotics. In this work we have further characterized a panel of four marine Antarctic bacteria able to inhibit the growth of human opportunistic multiresistant pathogenic bacteria belonging to the Burkholderia cepacia comp...
