Silent Very Long Period Seismic Events (VLPs) at Stromboli Volcano, Italy

چکیده
At Stromboli Volcano, Italy, very long period (VLP) seismic signals and Strombolian eruptions have been attributed to the unsteady flow of gas slugs through shallow plumbing system followed by explosive slug bursting at a free surface. In data from 2018 seismo-acoustic deployment, ∼92% events in two main VLP multiplets do not coincide time with impulsive infrasonic (the expected signal bursting); we term these “silent VLPs.” The lack infrasonically detected explosions relative repeating VLPs does support commonly invoked “gas slug” model. We propose that may be generated when bubbles move into weak semi-solid plug uppermost portion conduit. then acts as mechanical filter which pathways vary guide or trap ascending slugs, allowing for passive (silent) release escape mechanisms decoupled VLPs.

Very-Long-Period Volcanic Tremor at Stromboli, Italy
We analyze a long time–space series of Stromboli volcanic tremors. A very-low-frequency content in the range of 0.02–0.5 Hz has been found by using spectral analysis and independent component analysis. Independent component analysis is an entropy-based technique. We observe the occurrence of a component having a period of 30 sec. Polarization analysis shows that the wave field comes mainly from...
متن کاملDecrypting geophysical signals at Stromboli Volcano (Italy): Integration of seismic and Ground-Based InSAR displacement data
We present the integration of seismic and Ground-Based Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar system (GBInSAR) displacement data at Stromboli Volcano. Ground deformation in the area of summit vents is positively correlated with both seismic tremor amplitude and cumulative amplitudes of very long period (VLP) signals associated with Strombolian explosions. Changes in VLP amplitudes precede by ...
متن کاملThe 5 April 2003 vulcanian explosion at Stromboli volcano (Southern Italy): analysis of seismic data
On 5 April 2003 at 07:13 GMT (09:13 local time) a violent vulcanian explosion occurred at Stromboli volcano. At the time of the event an eruptive crisis was ongoing at the volcano with a lava flow outpouring along the Sciara del Fuoco flank. The seismic signals related to the event were recorded by 8 permanent broadband stations and gives informations about the eruption kinematics. An ultra-lon...
متن کاملThe April-May 2006 volcano-tectonic events at Stromboli volcano (Southern Italy) and their relation with the magmatic system
Between April 10th and May 22th 2006, a small seismic swarm of 5 volcano-tectonic events occurred on the volcanic island of Stromboli (Southern Italy). Two of these, having M > 3 and an intensity of about V-VI MCS, were clearly felt causing concern in the population. They were recorded during a period of increased explosive activity and were followed by two major explosions at the summit crater...
متن کاملReal-time inversion of VLP source functions at Stromboli Volcano, Italy
We present a comprehensive processing tool for the real-time analysis of the source mechanism of Very-Long-Period (VLP) seismic data based on waveform inversions performed in the frequency domain for a point source. A search for the source providing the best-fitting solution is conducted over a three-dimensional grid of assumed source locations, in which the Green’s functions associated with ea...
