Signalling new opportunities? An analysis of UK job adverts for degree apprenticeships

Purpose The purpose of this study is to gain insight into the degree apprenticeship labour market and employers' strategies for recruitment using job advertisement data. Specifically, identifies skills, attributes, experience qualifications that employers look in IT apprentices. also salaries responsibilities apprentices considers alignment between advertised jobs definitions. Design/methodology/approach Degree adverts ( n = 290) were collected from official websites used by England Scotland advertise roles, March 2019 2020. Data was analysed content analysis systematically elicit salaries, candidate requirements terms specific details these adverts. Findings A wide variation salary found. Entry routes similar traditional high school (A-levels or Highers) sought universities. skills attributes being at same seeking graduates apprenticeships designed develop. Most focused on training would be receiving, rather than work tasks, which rarely specified. Originality/value This first how roles are potential candidates thus contributes ongoing research new work/degree-level education model. By analysing we share insights position attract candidates.
