Signal-to-Noise Ratio of Microwave Photonic Filter With an Interferometric Structure Based on an Incoherent Broadband Optical Source

A comprehensive investigation of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) microwave photonic filter (MPF) with an interferometric structure based on incoherent broadband optical source (IBOS) is presented from time, and frequency domains, respectively. The structure, IBOS in MPF result a beneficial single-bandpass radio-frequency (RF) response. However, adds large noise to filtered RF signal. Therefore, analysis SNR great importance for design this kind MPFs. Theoretical shows that function center passband, modulation index, chromatic dispersion, shape IBOS. An experiment performed verify theory, experimental results agree well theoretical calculation.
