Sigmoid Sinus Wall Reconstruction for Pulsatile Tinnitus Caused by Sigmoid Sinus Wall Dehiscence: A Single-Center Experience
OBJECTIVE To evaluate clinical characteristics and present surgical outcomes of PT caused by sigmoid sinus wall dehiscence (SSWD). METHODS This study retrospectively reviewed 34 patients with PT who were diagnosed with SSWD in our institution between December 2008 and July 2013. Among them, 27 patients underwent sigmoid sinus wall reconstruction (surgery group) and 7 patients refused surgery ...
متن کاملTemporal Bone Pneumatization and Pulsatile Tinnitus Caused by Sigmoid Sinus Diverticulum and/or Dehiscence
BACKGROUND Although air cells within temporal bone may play an important role in the transmission of pulsatile tinnitus (PT) noise, it has not been studied systematically. PURPOSE To evaluate the difference in temporal bone pneumatization between PT patients with sigmoid sinus diverticulum and/or dehiscence (SSDD) and healthy people. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 199 unilateral persistent...
متن کاملPulsatile tinnitus associated with a laterally placed sigmoid sinus.
We describe a case of subjective pulsatile tinnitus associated with a laterally placed sigmoid sinus. CT showed an enhancing eroding through the medial wall of the right mastoid. Two-dimensional time-of-flight MR angiography and conventional cerebral angiography revealed the tortuous and laterally deviated sinus.
متن کاملSurgical Treatment of Pulsatile Tinnitus Caused by the Sigmoid Sinus Diverticulum
The sigmoid sinus diverticulum (SSD) is an increasingly recognized cause of pulsatile tinnitus (PT). Surgical reconstruction of the sigmoid sinus wall has been found to be highly effective for SSD; however, surgical techniques still need to be refined to reduce the incidenceof serious postoperative complications. Moreover, scrutinizing more cases of SSD is desirable for establishing the diagnos...
متن کاملStent-Assisted Coil Embolization of a Transverse-Sigmoid Sinus Diverticulum Presenting with Pulsatile Tinnitus.
When tinnitus is pulse-synchronous, a vascular etiology is suggested. We present a case of persistent and troublesome pulsatile tinnitus caused by a transverse-sigmoid sinus diverticulum that was endovascularly treated with stent-assisted coiling. A 39-yearold woman presented with a 4-year history of progressive pulsatile tinnitus involving the right ear. Slight pulsatile bruit was heard on the...
