چکیده
Abstract In this paper I take second order-quantification to be a sui generis form of quantification, irreducible first-order and examine the implications doing so for debate over existence properties. Nicholas K. Jones has argued that adding second-order quantification our ideology is enough establish properties exist. argue does not settle question whether there are because—like other ontological questions—it first-order. Then three main arguments conclude defeats “one many” argument that, coupled with predication, it also reference arguments.

The research reported in this paper is concerned with the problem of reasoning about properties of higher order functions involving state. It is motivated by the desire to identify what, if any, are the diiculties created purely by locality of state, independent of other properties such as side-eeects, exceptional termination and non-termination due to recursion. We consider a simple language (...

The question which we pose in this paper is under what conditions a firm should believe its competitors’ announcements. The manner in which...
متن کاملWhat You Should Believe: Obligations and Beliefs
This paper presents and discusses a novel approach to indeterministic belief revision. An indeterministic belief revision operator assumes that, when an agent is confronted with a new piece of information, it can revise its belief base in more than one way. We define a rational agent not only in terms of what it believes, as often assumed in belief revision, but also of what it ought or is obli...
