Nucleosynthesis in the Outflow from Gamma Ray Burst Accretion Disks
We examine the nucleosynthesis products that are produced in the outflow from rapidly accreting disks. We find that the type of element synthesis varies dramatically with the degree of neutrino trapping in the disk and therefore the accretion rate of the disk. Disks with relatively high accretion rates such as Ṁ = 10M⊙/s can produce very neutron rich nuclei that are found in the r process. Disk...
متن کاملA ballistic bow shock model for jet-driven protostellar outflow shells
We analyze the dynamics of the shell produced when a bow shock from a collimated jet propagates into the surrounding medium. Under interstellar conditions, the shock is radiative, and a ballistic approximation for the shell flow is appropriate beyond the working surface where the jet impacts its surroundings. The solution is then determined by the ambient and jet densities and velocities and by...
متن کاملA Possible Lateral Gamma-Ray Burst Jet from Supernova 1987A
There was a bright, transient companion spot to SN1987A with a projected distance of about 17 light-days, observed by speckle interferometry in the optical one to two months after explosion. It is shown here that the bright spot may be due to a receding ultra-relativistic jet traveling at ∼ 45 to the observer-to-SN1987A vector, through a circumstellar medium of density profile ρ(r) ∝ r. If it h...
متن کاملDelayed Flash from Counter Jet of Gamma Ray Burst
If the X-ray flash is the gamma ray burst (GRB) observed with the large viewing angle from the forward jet, we show that the emission from the counter jet should be observed as the delayed flash in the UV or optical band several hours to a day after the X-ray flash. If the distance is several tens of Mpc or so, i.e., similar to GRB980425, FUV-MAMA on HST/STIS or UVOT on Swift can observe the de...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Turbulent Outflow During Electron-Positron Magnetic Reconnection
The mass symmetry between the two species in electron-positron (pair) plasmas has interesting consequences for collisionless magnetic reconnection because the Hall term, which plays a crucial role in supporting fast reconnection in electron-proton plasmas, vanishes. We perform kinetic simulations of pair reconnection in systems of various sizes, show that it remains fast, and identify the reaso...
