Shifts in French Jewish Citizenship, 1789-1840s

چکیده

The citizenship of Jews became more discussed as a result changes from the French Revolution 1789. There were variety perspectives between non-Jews and Jews, different groups Jews. research methodology involves analysis qualitative primary sources including government texts debates, everyday Jewish literature journal excerpts. theoretical framework nationalism will guide how is analyzed in research, based on Dean Kostantaras’s book Nationalism Europe, 1763-1848. Results show that way fit into or engaged with society quite nuanced, community (Sephardic, Ashkenazi, etc.) region (Alsace, Bordeaux, etc.), Napoleon’s methods, had large influence extent to which wanted did not want further integrate institutions. While many Jews’ views their own found texts, opinions increasingly portrayed directly journals, Judaic reform, indirectly through fictional characters written works. These findings suggest researching particular regions leads varied perspectives, rather than general review group whole.
