چکیده
In order to investigate the physical leather quality characteristics of different sheep breeds, skins were obtained from Dohne Merino, Dormer, Dorper, Meatmaster, South African Mutton Merino (SAMM) and White Dorper yearlings two separate growth studies. The cured stored for 18 months (Group 1) 9 2) prior tanning. After tanning, samples butt region taken determine tensile strength distension properties. While sex, was found have little effect (P > 0.05) on in both groups, breed a more defined effect. Leather Meatmaster had higher strengths than that wool breeds (∼15.23 N/mm2 vs. ∼9.31 N/mm2, respectively; P ≤ 0.05). production exhibited highest breaking force (207.3 N 280.5 N) percentage elongation at break (103.5 % 77.2 %). Alternatively, SAMM, Dormer showed weaker properties which reduced extent these could be shaved without breaking, resulting thicker with hair breeds. closely resemble industry stipulations nappa products; while poorer are less desirable may require tanning processes achieve an improved product.

متن کاملGenetic analysis of three South African horse breeds.
Genetic variability at 7 blood-group and 10 biochemical genetic loci was examined in 3 South African horse breeds, the Nooitgedacht, Boerperd and Basuto Pony. Observed heterozygosity for these breeds was intermediate for domestic horses, with the highest heterozygosity in the Boerperd and the lowest in the Basuto Pony. The 3 breeds show greater genetic similarity to each other than to other dom...

Roads and railways are in a sense the arteries that keep the lifeblood of the economy flowing. Approximately 70 percent of freight moves by road in South Africa and it is growing by approximately four percent per annum. Data and information on heavy vehicle (HV) volumes and axle masses are therefore indispensable to road authorities for design and maintenance purposes. Heavy vehicle data from t...

Knowledge on the extent of linkage disequilibrium (LD) in livestock populations is essential to determine the minimum distance between markers required for effective coverage when conducting genome-wide association studies (GWAS). This study evaluated the extent of LD, persistence of allelic phase and effective population size (Ne) for four Sanga cattle breeds in South Africa including the Afri...
