ShapeFit: extracting the power spectrum shape information in galaxy surveys beyond BAO and RSD

چکیده
In the standard (classic) approach, galaxy clustering measurements from spectroscopic surveys are compressed into baryon acoustic oscillations and redshift space distortions measurements, which in turn can be compared to cosmological models. Recent works have shown that avoiding this intermediate step fitting directly full power spectrum signal (full modelling) leads much tighter constraints on parameters. Here we show where extra information is coming extend classic approach with one additional effective parameter, such it captures, effectively, same amount of as modelling but a model-independent way. We validate new method (ShapeFit) mock catalogs, compare its performance finding both deliver equivalent results. The ShapeFit extension promotes analyses at level ones terms content, advantages i) being more model independent; ii) offering an understanding origin information; iii) allowing robust control impact observational systematics.

Measuring the Galaxy Power Spectrum with Future Redshift Surveys
Precision measurements of the galaxy power spectrum P (k) require a data analysis pipeline that is both fast enough to be computationally feasible and accurate enough to take full advantage of high-quality data. We present a rigorous discussion of different methods of power spectrum estimation, with emphasis on the traditional Fourier method, and linear (Karhunen-Loève; KL), and quadratic data ...
متن کاملThe Shape of the Sdss Dr5 Galaxy Power Spectrum
We present a Fourier analysis of the clustering of galaxies in the combined Main galaxy and Luminous Red Galaxy (LRG) Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 5 (DR5) sample. The aim of our analysis is to consider how well we can measure the cosmological matter density using the signature of the horizon at matter-radiation equality embedded in the large-scale power spectrum. The new data co...
متن کاملExtracting information from the power spectrum of voltage noise
We outline an approximation for obtaining an analytic expression of the power spectral density (PSD) of the membrane potential ðVmÞ in neurons subject to synaptic noise. In highconductance states, there is a remarkable agreement between this approximation and PSDs computed numerically. This analytic expression can be used to predict how the PSD depends on the exact kinetic model for synaptic cu...
متن کاملImprint of Inhomogeneous Reionization on the Power Spectrum of Galaxy Surveys at High Redshifts
We consider the effects of inhomogeneous reionization on the distribution of galaxies at high redshifts. Modulation of the formation process of the ionizing sources by large scale density modes makes reionization inhomogeneous and introduces a spread to the reionization times of different regions with the same size. After sources photo-ionize and heat these regions to a temperature & 10K at dif...
متن کاملThe power spectrum of galaxy clustering
We measure the power spectrum of galaxy clustering in real space from the APM Galaxy Survey. We present an improved technique for the numerical inversion of Limber’s equation that relates the angular clustering of galaxies to an integral over the power spectrum in three dimensions. Our approach is underpinned by a large ensemble of mock galaxy catalogues constructed from the Hubble Volume N-bod...
