Shape Modelling and Volume Optimisation of Salt Caverns for Energy Storage

نویسندگان

چکیده

Salt caverns are an attractive solution to the growing energy demand in view of their large storage capacity, safety operation and long time. The designing process salt is still considered a complex issue despite progress geotechnical, construction exploration methods. Finding optimal shape dimensions cavern given geological conditions difficult engineering problem stability requirements. In this paper, typical shapes (cylindrical, enlarged top, bottom), with each three variants differing by diameter, was evaluated against factors bedded deposit. Moreover, analysed were examined terms edges. three-step smoothing sharp edges performed, its impact on cavern’s performance studied. analysis aimed find volume implemented conditions. evaluation based following criteria: displacement, effective strain, von Mises stress, strength/stress ratio factor. results can be useful design for planning new fields storing natural gas, compressed air or hydrogen deposits.

‌Optimal design of onboard energy storage systems with volume limitation for urban electrical rail transportation

Train braking energy regeneration in urban electrical rail transportation systems can reduce energy consumption and operational cost of the system. In this paper, optimal design of an onboard energy storage system (OESS) with volume constraint is presented for urban electrical rail transportation systems (ERTS). Onboard super-capacitors are considered as the storage system. The objective functi...

Cooling Water System Modelling for Control and Energy Optimisation Purposes

Utilities account for a significant portion of the fixed cost associated with running a petrochemical plant, however, utility optimisation has not received much focus until recently. This change was driven by rising energy prices, stricter environmental policies, and the threat of climate change. Several utilities are used including steam, compressed air, nitrogen, cooling water, refrigeration ...

On the Modelling and Optimisation of Urban Energy Fluxes

Around 3/4 of global resources are currently consumed in urban settlements, with corresponding adverse environmental consequences. According to population forecasts this situation will worsen in the coming years. It is therefore imperative that we understand how to design less resource intensive urban settlements. Software for the modelling and optimisation of resource flows are of interest to ...

Dynamic Modelling of a Compressed Air Energy Storage System in a Grid Connected Photovoltaic Plant

The use of photovoltaic (PV) cells in domestic and industrial applications has grown rapidly through the recent years. Constructing PV plants is a very smart measure to produce free electricity in large scales, especially in the countries with higher solar irradiation potential. On the other hand, compressed air energy storage (CAES) has already been proposed to be employed for energy storage a...
