Severo Ochoa (1905–93)

Centro de Biologia Molecular "Severo Ochoa": a center for basic research into Alzheimer's disease.

One important aspect of studies carried out at the Center for Molecular Biology "Severo Ochoa" is focused on basic aspects of Alzheimer's disease, mainly the search for suitable therapeutic targets for this disorder. Several groups at the Center are involved in these studies, and, in this spotlight, the work they are carrying out will be described.

Ochoa or Urofacial syndrome.

We report a 10 year old boy presenting with bilateral hydronephrosis and peculiar facial expression suggestive of Ochoa Syndrome or Urofacial syndrome. He had chronic renal failure which was managed conservatively.

Population Dynamics and the Epidemiological Model Proposed by Severo

We revisit the non-bilinear incidence rate model proposed by Severo, in order to introduce a derived dynamical model taking into account the heterogeneities related to environment, immunity and genetics. The properties of that model can be better understood by the means of the population dynamics theory.
