چکیده
Although blood culture is considered the gold standard for detection of neonatal infections bloodstream, its result can take from 48-72 h and has low sensitivity. In this study, we determined usefulness panbacterial polymerase chain reaction (PCR) panviral RT-PCR in serum, as tests early diagnosis sepsis. We studied 195 patients with clinical sepsis, up to age 28 days, hospitalized Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Hospital Infantil de México “Federico Gómez”, umbilical cord samples obtained healthy newborns. Blood cultures, DNA / RNA extraction were done a system primers rRNA 16s region, which highly conserved large number bacteria non-coding enteroviral 5´ (5’-NCR) respectively. The results showed that among 90 newborns sepsis negative PCR, 19 randomly selected perform RT-PCR; 26% them had positive result. Statistical analysis included PCR test’s sensitivity, specificity, predictive value (PPV) (NPV) using standard. sensitivity was 77%, specificity 83%, PPV 92% NPV 59%. summary, useful, quick effective should be used complement microbiological diagnoses. frequency low, recommended. Our indicate molecular provides balance cost-benefit.

Sensitivity And Specificity Of Procalcitonin In Diagnosis Of Neonatal Sepsis
Background and Objective: According to the fact that neonatal infection is a challenging diagnosis field, several studies have tried to test sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tests. This study was conducted to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of procalcitonin (PCT) as a single early marker of neonatal sepsis. Materials and Methods: In this study, 150 neonates admitted to NIC...
متن کاملSignificance of Serum Procalcitonin Level in the Early Diagnosis of Neonatal Sepsis
Background: Sepsis in neonates presents itself with non-specific clinical features which makes early diagnosis difficult. However, procalcitonin (PCT) and other inflammatory markers have recently been considered as sensitive markers for the early detection of neonatal sepsis. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the diagnostic value of PCT in the early detection of neonatal sepsis an...
متن کاملPetechial Hemorrhage: A clinical diagnosis of neonatal Thrombocytopenia and sepsis
A preterm female baby with birth weight of 1.5kg was referred to our hospital on day 6 for difficulty in breathing. Baby was admitted at birth for respiratory distress and feed intolerance to other hospital and in view of clinical deterioration baby was referred. Baby had thrombocytopenia with platelets counts of 11000/ mm3 and high CRP titer. Baby had petechial haemorrhagic spots all over the ...
متن کاملThe Potential Role of Fosfomycin in Neonatal Sepsis Caused by Multidrug-Resistant Bacteria.
The broad-spectrum activity of fosfomycin, including against multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains, has led to renewed interest in its use in recent years. Neonatal sepsis remains a substantial cause of morbidity and mortality at a global level, with evidence that MDR bacteria play an increasing role. The evidence for use of fosfomycin in neonatal subjects is limited. We summarise current knowledge...
متن کاملProcalcitonin: A Reliable Marker for the Diagnosis of Neonatal Sepsis
Objective(s) In the last few years, serum procalcitonin has been proposed as an early marker of infections in neonates, with varying results. In this study, we aimed to investigate the value of procalcitonin, and C- reactive protein in establishing the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis. Materials and Methods Blood samples were collected at admission from 69 neonates with suspected infection (admi...
