Serum oxytocin levels in adolescents with conduct disorder associated with callous-unemotional traits

Abstract Background Conduct disorder (CD) is a serious and common psychiatric affecting children adolescents. “Callous-unemotional traits” new specifier added to the diagnosis of CD in DSM-5. The thought be associated with more severity higher genetic load. Oxytocin known related interpersonal sympathy social affection, so its deficiency might unemotionality. This work aims explore levels serum oxytocin adolescents callous-unemotional (CU) traits as compared healthy control subjects. Twenty patients aged 12–18 years 20 controls same age range were recruited. An Arabic-translated validated version Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview for kids (MINI-kid) was used confirm diagnosis. Youth Psychopathic Inventory-short (YPI-short version) Inventory Callous-Unemotional Traits (ICU), both parent self-reports, all translated into Arabic by authors evaluate sample. Evaluation level using ELISA technique done. Results After statistical adjustment differences socioeconomic status, an adolescent CU showed low group. Serum negatively correlated statistically significant degree unemotional, callousness, uncaring subscores ICU—self-report. Conclusions Low play potential role biomarker CD.
