[Prognostic significance of serum immunoglobulins in chronic lymphocytic leukemia].
-CLL is frequently accompanied by decreased levels of serum immunoglobulins which increases patients susceptibility to infections (1,2). Low levels of IgA, IgM and IgG occur in 30%, 30% and 10% of B-CLL patients respectively at the time of diagnosis. The appearance of decreased levels of immunoglobulins is a continuos process developing spontaneously during the untreated course of the disease. ...
متن کاملRecurrent cytogenetic findings in subsets of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia expressing IgG-switched stereotyped immunoglobulins.
We report a remarkable association of recurrent (stereotyped) cytogenetic aberrations with two subsets of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cases expressing IgG-switched, stereotyped B-cell receptors (BCRs). Comparison with cases with heterogeneous BCRs showed that these recurrent cytogenetic aberrations were subset-biased. These findings further support a role for antigen in CLL development.
متن کاملB lymphocyte subpopulations in chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
We have defined two subpopulations of B lymphocytes in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The major variant (termed typical) was characterized by the presence of a relatively homogeneous population of small-to-medium-sized lymphocytes with low-density SmIgM and no evidence of intracellular Ig synthesis. A minor group (termed atypical) was identified by the presence of a pleomorphic cell popula...
متن کاملCytoplasmic immunoglobulins in chronic lymphocytic leukemia B cells.
It is generally assumed that chronic lymphocytic leukemia of B cell origin (B-CLL) is characterized by the presence of surface membrane immunoglobulins (SmIg) and by the absence of cytoplasmic immunoglobulins (CyIg). In a variable number of cases SmIg are not detectable because of their low density on the cellular surface. Because a constant presence of CyIg in 20 subjects suffering from B-CLL ...
متن کاملFour monoclonal immunoglobulins in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
We report here the case of a 73-year-old woman with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Two years after the diagnosis, electrophoresis of her serum showed two monoclonal fractions, but our modified immunofixation procedure revealed four monoclonal immunoglobulins in five fractions: two IgG lambda fractions, one IgG kappa fraction, one IgA kappa fraction, and one IgG kappa fraction. This is an excepti...
