Serum cytokine profile of pediatric patients with laboratory confirmed pneumococcal meningitis

چکیده
Streptococcus pneumoniae infection is a leading cause of bacterial meningitis in children with severe sequelae. Cytokines are important molecules regulating host inflammatory and anti-inflammatory responses. So far, the cytokine profile caused by single pathogen has been rarely reported. The aim this study was to explore serum pediatric patients pneumococcal (PM) its clinical relevance which could be considered as valuable tool for differential diagnosis PM. During 2015–2018, 95 laboratory-confirmed PM were included. Of them, 63 had samples at admission. Ten cytokines including TNF-?, IL-12p40, IL-17A, IL-1?, IFN-?, GM-CSF, IL-10, CXCL-1, IL-8 IL-13 measured multiplex immunoassay sera 55 age-matched healthy controls (HCs). Level compared different features patients. Significantly higher level IL-10 observed than HCs (median, 2.19 vs. 1.92 pg/mL, p = 0.017). lower levels IL-17A IL-1? 0.68 10.12 < 0.0001; 1.14 0.004; 1.00 5.09 0.0001, respectively). No difference found other between controls. A negative correlation noticed percentages blood neutrophils concentrations (p 0.048, r ?0.25). IL-12p40 CXCL-1 sepsis those without (median 1.64 0.026; 7.25 12.84 0.043, Our results suggested that there might significant changes pro-inflammatory determination these may have limited value evaluation outcome

Cerebrospinal-fluid cytokine and chemokine profile in patients with pneumococcal and meningococcal meningitis
BACKGROUND Bacterial meningitis is characterized by an intense inflammatory reaction contributing to neuronal damage. The aim of this study was to obtain a comparative analysis of cytokines and chemokines in patients with pneumococcal (PM) and meningococcal meningitis (MM) considering that a clear difference between the immune response induced by these pathogens remains unclear. METHODS The c...
متن کاملSerum cytokine profile in pediatric Sweet’s syndrome: a case report
BACKGROUND Sweet's syndrome is characterized by fever, leukocytosis, and tender erythematous papules or nodules. It is a rare condition, particularly in the pediatric population, and has recently been proposed to be an autoinflammatory disease that occurs due to innate immune system dysfunction, involving several cytokines, which causes abnormally increased inflammation. To the best of our know...

A previously healthy, full-term 5-month-old girl presented to the emergency department with a 1-day history of fever to 103°F, emesis, poor feeding, and progressive lethargy. She had recently started day care. The patient had received her routine 2and 4-month childhood vaccines on schedule, including the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13). Initial examination revealed decreased re...
متن کاملTh1, Th2 and Th17 Cytokine Profile in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis Following Treatment with Rapamycin
Background: Management of multiple sclerosis (MS) is based on the usage of immunosuppressive and immune-modulating medications. Cytokines play an important role in the pathogenesis of MS. Objective: To evaluate the effects of rapamycin on the concentrations of Th1/Th2/Th17 serum cytokines in patients with MS. Methods: Six patients with relapsing remitting MS as a case group and 6 healthy indivi...
