Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, a macrofungal diversity hotspot in the Mediterranean region

The Serra de São Mamede Natural Park is a biodiversity hotspot in the broad region of Alentejo, Portugal, where influence Atlantic Ocean allows for continuity Eurosiberian-like forest heart Mediterranean region. park therefore unique among few protected areas Portugal. We attempt to describe macrofungal diversity first time. Our results reveal rich and diverse assembly species (239 taxa), particular, mycorrhizal (145 taxa). Furthermore, 26 taxa are newly recorded from while 81 Alto Alentejo Province. Also, majority these reported were mixed stands Quercus pyrenaica Willd.—a European habitat limited extent—whose importance enhanced now associated community, as shown our study.
