Serotyping of Campylobacter jejuni/coli.
Antisera were prepared from strains of Campylobacter jejuni/coli isolated from patients in six outbreaks of enteritis. Bactericidal antibodies, and agglutinating antibodies to heat-labile and heat-stable antigens, were demonstrated. These reactions were used to type a number of strains isolated from patients in each outbreak, and to distinguish 'epidemic' from 'non-epidemic' strains.
متن کاملFlagellin gene polymorphism analysis of Campylobacter compared with antigen serotyping.
Flagellin gene sequence polymorphisms were used to discriminate amongst 53 strains of Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli. The Campylobacter strains were made up of forty-three strains of Campylobacter jejuni and 10 strains of Campylobacter coli. The results were analysed in relation to Penner serotyping. Twenty DNA PCR-RFLP patterns (genotypes) were identified by analysis of Dde I fragment length...
متن کاملComparison of two methods for serotyping Campylobacter spp.
Two serotyping schemes (Penner and Laboratory of Enteric Pathogens [LEP]) based on soluble heat-stable antigens were used to analyze 3,788 Campylobacter sp. isolates. A significant percentage (36.6%) was untypeable using LEP serotyping; greater cross-reaction was also observed. The relative discrimination capabilities of the techniques were similar. Penner serotyping fulfils more of the requisi...
متن کاملEvaluation of commercial antisera for serotyping heat-labile antigens of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli.
Commercial antisera for serotyping 22 heat-labile antigens of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli were evaluated by using 66 isolates from human and nonhuman sources. Test results were compared with results of tests using antisera produced at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Atlanta, Ga. All strains (three isolates of each of the 22 serotypes) were typeable with the CDC antisera. ...
متن کاملIsolation, characterization, and serotyping of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli from slaughter cattle.
A total of 525 specimens from 100 slaughter beef cattle were examined for the presence of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli by direct plating and enrichment techniques. Isolates were identified by cultural, biochemical, antibiotic sensitivity, and immunofluorescence tests and further characterized with the aid of recently developed biotyping and serotyping methods. Fifty animals were ...
