Seroprevalence of Chikungunya Virus Infection in an Urban Slum Population of Bangladesh: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Chikungunya virus is common in Bangladesh. Objective: The aim of the study was to estimate post-outbreak seroprevalence chikungunya infection a Bangladeshi urban slum population. Methodology: From April May 2018, cross-sectional conducted Bauniabadh, an underprivileged area Mirpur Thana (subdistrict), Dhaka, Randomly selected residents this were interviewed and screened for IgM IgG antibodies sera using immunochromatographic process. Results: 403 recruited which 200 cases male 203 female. 4.7% with males being more vulnerable than females (6.5% vs. 3.0% ). People over age 60 years found be infected at higher rate (7.2%) people between ages 18 59 (5.5%) those pediatric group (1%). During outbreak, 22% patients joint pain 17% fever diagnosed as having chikungunya. Conclusion Urban people, especially elderly, are affected by outbreak Bangladesh characterized pain.
