Sequential competition and the strategic origins of preferential attachment

چکیده
We analyze whether random network formation processes, such as preferential attachment, can emerge the outcome of strategic behaviour. represent an extensive game in which players sequentially form links they enter network. In this setting, we investigate under conditions subgame perfect equilibria are observationally equivalent with process. put forward two structural that necessary respect. First, must have some imperfect information randomization is purposeful only if its realization not perfectly observed by other players. Second, there be competition between a player and successors: has incentives to reduce available successors extent their objectives opposition. Accordingly, class games where compete predecessors for costs benefits induced link show particular, when linkage inversely proportional degree node, equilibrium play induces attachment This provides positive answer question existence foundations attachment. Competition-Induced Preferential Attachment
Models based on preferential attachment have had much success in reproducing the power law degree distributions which seem ubiquitous in both natural and engineered systems. Here, rather than assuming preferential attachment, we give an explanation of how it can arise from a more basic underlying mechanism of competition between opposing forces. We introduce a family of one-dimensional geometri...
متن کاملDegree Distribution of Competition-Induced Preferential Attachment Graphs
We introduce a family of one-dimensional geometric growth models, constructed iteratively by locally optimizing the tradeoffs between two competing metrics, and show that this family is equivalent to a family of preferential attachment random graph models with upper cutoffs. This is the first explanation of how preferential attachment can arise from a more basic underlying mechanism of local co...
متن کاملSecurity Arrangements of the Persian Gulf and the Strategic Competition of Iran and USA
Before the beginning of the European colonialism era, the Persian Gulf was a communication link between Asia, Europe and Africa, through which silk, spices and other needed goods were transported into the Mediterranean. With the discovery of the Cape of Good Hope and the flourishing of the southern African routes, in order to control the trade routes, colonialists entered the arena, and worked ...

The preferential attachment model∗
Many empirically studied networks have approximately so-called power-law or scale-free degree distributions. In Section 1 we formally define such distributions and explore some of their properties. We also introduce and briefly compare two methods for constructing random networks with approximately power-law degree distributions: generic scale-free networks and the preferential attachment model...
