Semantic Relation Priming Is Not Constituent-Specific—Evidence from Electrophysiology

چکیده
Compound words in psycholinguistics pose a significant challenge for researchers as their meaning involves more than the sum of parts. The role semantic relations this process is crucial, and studies have reported phenomenon known relation priming. It suggests that previously encountered enhance processing subsequent with same relation. Notably, priming effect limited to cases where there morpheme repetition between target words. In present study, 33 samples from group were selected, within-subject design 3 morphemes (modifier-shared, head-shared, non-repeated) × 2 (relation-same, relation-different) was adopted explore whether would occur without its time course. Significant effects found both behavioral electrophysiological experimental results. These findings indicating can independently repetition, it has been activated at very early stage (about 200 ms). As word progresses, activation gradually strengthens, slowly increasing compound recognition. may first be used context information help determine constituent morphemes’ meaning. After access morphemes, they begin play composition process. This study uses technology precisely describe representation course time, which gives us deeper understanding process, sheds light on construction compounds.

Exploiting Constituent Dependencies for Tree Kernel-Based Semantic Relation Extraction
This paper proposes a new approach to dynamically determine the tree span for tree kernel-based semantic relation extraction. It exploits constituent dependencies to keep the nodes and their head children along the path connecting the two entities, while removing the noisy information from the syntactic parse tree, eventually leading to a dynamic syntactic parse tree. This paper also explores e...
متن کاملIndividual Differences in Semantic Priming Performance: Insights from the Semantic Priming Project
The semantic/associative priming effect refers to the finding of faster recognition times for words preceded by related targets (e.g., cat – DOG), compared to words preceded by unrelated targets (e.g., hat – DOG). Over the past three decades, a voluminous literature has explored the influence of semantic primes on word recognition, and this work has been critical in shaping our understanding of...
متن کاملGenericity Is Conceptual, Not Semantic
Genericity is not encoded in the syntax semantics interface any more than metaphoricity is, or other forms of sense selection. We observe the overwhelming cross-linguistic lack of encoding of cues which could be understood as a signal of a particular semantic content. We note the ready compatibility of a range of syntactic forms with each of a range of conceptual distinctions one might make abo...
متن کاملCross-Modal Semantic Priming
The cross-modal semantic priming paradigm is described, including its underlying rationale and the different tasks with which it is combined. The major characteristics of the paradigm—the type of stimuli used, the dependent and independent variables typically manipulated—are then introduced. Also, its main advantages and drawbacks are discussed. Finally, the most important areas of application ...
