Selection of Mulberry Genotypes from Northern Serbia for ‘Ornafruit’ Purposes

The genus Morus L., mulberry, is an interesting taxonomic group on account of its existing genetic variability, functional food potential and commercial importance. Mulberry trees are found in a wide range areas Serbia, accounting for large phenotypic diversity resources. Tree fruit characteristics more than 300 mulberry specimens were surveyed, 15 genotypes alba, nigra rubra species selected further analyses. These located at various sites the province Vojvodina, Serbia. present study was undertaken to investigate collected material aiming pre-select suitable landscaping/ornamental and/or production purposes. Genotypes BP 3/9, DT1, ZP3 MR1 have semi-vigorous growth, dropping growth habits, different leaf shapes (ovate, oval, cordate) color (from light dark green), corresponding ornamental mulberries. In addition, genotype ZD1 with spreading tree palmate-lobed leaves distinguished as unique landscaping most vigorous annual shoot detected (118.5 cm), followed by DT1 (108.2 (101.8 cm) ZP1 (100.5 genotypes. Contrary, DJ1 exhibited lowest only 32.9 cm average length shoots. Due greater mass (4.2–6.1 g), sweetness acidity balance well chemical composition, 1/4, DJ1, MG, MR1, may be recommended fresh consumption, while ZD1, 3/9 could appropriate home processing. According analyses, promising combining high soluble solids content (21.2% 18.5%, respectively), total sugar (17.41% 15.20%, respectively) ascorbic acid (42.24 49.28 mg/%, respectively). Additionally, also characterized highest phenolic (221.08 mg 27 GAE/100 g weight). from this (BP MR1) combined their pomological characterization can edible gardening purposes due both aesthetic appearance nutritive value fruits.
