Selecting Geological Formations for CO2 Storage: A Comparative Rating System
نویسندگان
چکیده
Underground storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in geological formations plays a vital role capture and (CCS) technology. It involves capturing CO2 emissions from industrial processes power generation storing them underground, thereby reducing greenhouse gas curbing the impact climate change. This review paper features comparative analysis deep saline aquifers, depleted reservoirs, coal seams, basaltic clastic formations. The comparison has been drawn based upon seven factors carefully selected literature, i.e., safety, capacity, injection rates, efficiency, residual trapping, containment integrity potential to improve, all these have rated low (1) high (5) their individual traits. Based factors, an overall M.H. rating system developed categorize for it is observed that water aquifers are most effective options storage. Lastly, detailed way forward suggested, which can help researchers policymakers find more viable ways enhance efficiency various

متن کاملAn integrative approach to robust design and probabilistic risk assessment for CO2 storage in geological formations
CO2 storage in geological formations is currently being discussed intensively as a technology with a high potential for mitigating CO2 emissions. However, any large-scale application requires a thorough analysis of the potential risks. Current numerical simulation models are too expensive for probabilistic risk analysis or stochastic approaches based on a brute-force approach of repeated simula...
متن کاملModeling the Sequestration of CO2 in Deep Geological Formations
Modeling the injection of CO 2 and its sequestration will require simulations of a multi-well injection system in a large reservoir field. However, modeling at the injection well scale is a necessary prerequisite to reservoir scale modeling. We report on the development and application of two models: 1) a semi-analytical model (PNLCARB), and 2) a numerical model (STOMP-CO 2). PNLCARB can simula...
متن کاملGeological Sequestration of CO2: Mechanisms and Kinetics of CO2 Reactions in Mafic and Ultramafic Rock Formations
We investigated the interactions between CO2-rich fluids and Mg-silicate minerals using experiments to provide information on reaction rates and to identify potential catalysts for the reactions, and studies of natural analogues to assess the conditions that lead to massive carbonation of ultramafic rocks and thus the potential for field-scale implementation. Key findings from our exploratory w...
متن کاملGeological Sequestration of CO2: Mechanisms and Kinetics of CO2 Reactions in Mafic and Ultramafic Rock Formations
The main purpose of this exploratory project is to develop a more fundamental understanding of the long-term sequestration of CO2 via mineral carbonation reactions involving the common Mg-silicates in serpentinite and basalt mineral assemblages. Past experimental studies have shown that these reactions are kinetically limited, so we are exploring ways to enhance their kinetics, including the us...
