Seismic Diffraction Imaging to Characterize Mass?Transport Complexes: Examples From the Gulf of Cadiz, South West Iberian Margin

چکیده
Mass-transport complexes (MTCs) are often characterized by small-scale discontinuous internal structure, such as slide blocks, rough interfaces, faults, and truncated strata. Seismic images may not properly resolve structure because seismic reflections fundamentally limited in lateral resolution the source bandwidth. The relatively weak diffractions, instead, encode information on subwavelength-scale with superior illumination. In this paper, we compare diffraction imaging to conventional, full-wavefield characterize MTCs. We apply a workflow based plane-wave destruction filters two 2D marine multichannel profiles from Gulf of Cadiz. observe that MTCs generate large amount diffracted energy relative unfailed confining sediments. show some is localized along existing discontinuities imaged images. demonstrate that, combination images, can be utilized better discriminate extent MTCs, particularly for thin bodies. suggest more physically correct alternative commonly used discontinuity attributes derived Finally, outline an approach utilize out-of-plane diffractions generated 3D normally considered nuisance processing. use controlled synthetic test real-data example under certain conditions these might constrain minimum width single profiles.

Interaction of tectonic and depositional processes that control the evolution of the Iberian Gulf of Cadiz margin
This study provides an integrated view of the growth patterns and factors that controlled the evolution of the Gulf of Cadiz continental margin based on studies of the tectonic, sedimentologic and oceanographic history of the area. Seven sedimentary regimes are identified, but there are more extensive descriptions of the late Cenozoic regimes because of the larger data base. The regimes of the ...
متن کاملSurveillance of viruses in wild fish populations in areas around the Gulf of Cadiz (South Atlantic Iberian Peninsula).
This report describes a viral epidemiological study of wild fish around the Gulf of Cadiz (southwestern Iberian Peninsula) and is focused on infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV), viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV), and viral nervous necrosis virus (VNNV). One fish species (Chelon labrosus) was sampled inside the gulf, at the mouth of the San Pedro River. Another 29 were sampled, i...

chapter i provides an overview of structural linguistics and touches upon the saussurean dichotomies with the final goal of exploring their relevance to the stylistic studies of literature. to provide evidence for the singificance of the study, chapter ii deals with the controversial issue of linguistics and literature, and presents opposing views which, at the same time, have been central to t...
