Seed Morphology, Life Form and Distribution in Three Bromheadia Species (Epidendroideae, Orchidaceae)

نویسندگان

چکیده

The seed morphology of three species belonging to the genus Bromheadia was analyzed under light and scanning electron microscopy. seeds B. cecieliae truncata were studied for first time. Differences in qualitative quantitative characteristics between terrestrial finlaysoniana epiphytes observed, which concordance with life form. Due variability shapes, a new methodology is proposed analyze distance embryo testa cells, aim demonstrating presence air space within seed. method compared previous formulae used measure free space. Furthermore, measurement, angle twisted cells epiphytic orchids, proposed, evaluate degree torsion medial cells. Although wide distribution could be related great buoyancy their contrast limited cecieliae, we consider that environmental factors are more influential than when understanding these taxa. Future studies on orchid genera taxa will provide insights into this research.

Mycorrhizal specificity in the fully mycoheterotrophic Hexalectris Raf. (Orchidaceae: Epidendroideae).

Mycoheterotrophic species have abandoned an autotrophic lifestyle and obtain carbon exclusively from mycorrhizal fungi. Although these species have evolved independently in many plant families, such events have occurred most often in the Orchidaceae, resulting in the highest concentration of these species in the tracheophytes. Studies of mycoheterotrophic species' mycobionts have generally reve...

Bulbophyllum pingnanense (Orchidaceae, Epidendroideae, Dendrobiinae), a new species from Fujian, China

A new orchid species, Bulbophyllum pingnanense, is described and illustrated from Fujian, China. It is similar to Bulbophyllum brevipedunculatum and Bulbophyllum albociliatum in vegetative and floral morphology, but it can be distinguished from Bulbophyllum brevipedunculatum by having a longer dorsal sepal with longer white ciliate on margin, longer and lanceolate lateral sepals, and a glabrous...

Arborescent palm seed morphology and seedling distribution.

This study examines how the seed morphology of two large arborescent palms, Attalea maripa (Aubl.) Mart. and Astrocaryum aculeatum G. Mey, may affect their seed shadow in a seasonally dry Amazonian forest. In addition to being smaller and produced in larger numbers than those of A. aculeatum, A. maripa seeds also presented a substantially lower amount of nutritional reserves available for the e...

Independent degradation in genes of the plastid ndh gene family in species of the orchid genus Cymbidium (Orchidaceae; Epidendroideae)

In this paper, we compare ndh genes in the plastid genome of many Cymbidium species and three closely related taxa in Orchidaceae looking for evidence of ndh gene degradation. Among the 11 ndh genes, there were frequently large deletions in directly repeated or AT-rich regions. Variation in these degraded ndh genes occurs between individual plants, apparently at population levels in these Cymbi...

Phylogenetic relationships in Epidendroideae (Orchidaceae), one of the great flowering plant radiations: progressive specialization and diversification.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS The largest subfamily of orchids, Epidendroideae, represents one of the most significant diversifications among flowering plants in terms of pollination strategy, vegetative adaptation and number of species. Although many groups in the subfamily have been resolved, significant relationships in the tree remain unclear, limiting conclusions about diversification and creating u...
