Sedimentation of open-framework gravels in alluvial-fan settings: Quaternary Poplar Fan, northwest China

چکیده
Open-framework gravels (OFGs) form common lithofacies of alluvial fans. However, inferences their mechanisms transport and deposition, controls on distribution in alluvial-fan successions, remain difficult, limiting our ability to interpret the environmental significance such deposits predict distributions ancient successions. From an applied standpoint, predictions are important development hydrocarbon reservoirs remediation aquifers hosted strata. To elucidate understanding formative conditions different types OFGs, a study has been undertaken Quaternary Poplar Fan, endorheic Heshituoluogai Basin, China.

â â â parsian alluvial fan system is a part of asyab-kharabeh fluvial system that response it to quaternary climate changes is the main goal of this study. for this aim, climatic proxies and traces in alluvial fan structure were investigated base d o n four categories: aggradation and degradation phases, debris flows, size changes in deposited materials and formation of alluvial fan tufas. pri...
متن کاملAlluvial fan facies of the Qazvin Plain: paleoclimate and tectonic implications during Quaternary
The present research focuses on a detailed facies description and interpretation of five alluvial fans of the Qazvin Plain. Beside the tectonic activity that leads to the localization of the fans on the northern margin of the Qazvin Plain, the climate has a significant role in the occurrence of their facies. The alluvial fans are divided into three facies groups: group 1, group 2, and group 3. ...
متن کاملControls on alluvial fan long - profi les
Water and debris fl ows exiting confi ned valleys have a tendency to deposit sediment on steep fans. On alluvial fans where water transport of gravel predominates, channel slopes tend to decrease downfan from ~0.10–0.04 to ~0.01 across wide ranges of climate and tectonism. Some have argued that this pattern refl ects grain-size fi ning downfan such that higher threshold slopes are required just...
متن کاملThe Source, Flow Rates, and Hydrochemical Evolution of Groundwater in an Alluvial Fan of Qilian Mountain, Northwest China
Major ions and selected environmental tracers (D, 18O, 3H and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)) were employed to determine the source, flow rates, and hydrochemical evolution of groundwater in an alluvial fan along the front of the Qilian Mountains, which serves as an important groundwater reservoir in northwest China. Temporal and spatial variations in ion concentrations were limited near the upper ...
متن کاملCorrelation and dating of Quaternary alluvial-fan surfaces using scarp diffusion
Great interest has recently been focused on dating and interpreting alluvial-fan surfaces. As a complement to the radiometric methods often used for surface-exposure dating, this paper illustrates a rapid method for correlating and dating fan surfaces using the cross-sectional shape of gullies incised into fan surfaces. The method applies a linear hillslope-diffusion model to invert for the dif...
