Sedative and anticonvulsant activities of aqueous and ethanol dried leaf extracts of Solenostemon monostachyus in mice

This study evaluated the sedative, and anticonvulsant activities of aqueous (AESM) ethanol (EESM) dried leaf extracts Solenostemon monostachyus. The sedative effect was with ketamine-induced hypnosis (100 mg/kg, i.p.). Also, activity using pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced convulsion (85 i.p.), strychnine-induced (2 i.p.) maximal electroshock (MES)-induced models. AESM (200 p.o.) gave 66.67% protection, while EESM (800 100% protection against hind limb tonic extension on MES. only at 200 p.o. caused a significant change (p < 0.01) in latency time death PTZ –induced convulsion. (200, 400 800 significantly 0.05 – shortened sleep latency. At p.o., prolonged 0.05) total sleeping relative to vehicle. concluded that S. monostachyus possessed mild activities.
