چکیده

Among populations living in close connection with the sea, rivers and lakes for subsistence, diet varies according to local monthly wildlife species availability food preferences. This may lead variations methylmercury (MeHg) exposure over a year, although no biomonitoring studies have documented this issue Circumpolar populations, most exposed international Hg emissions. Our aim was characterize seasonal MeHg among pregnant Inuit women from Nunavik identify country foods responsible these variations. Between October 2016 March 2017, 97 participants were recruited. Blood mercury (Hg) tested hair measured by centimeter as surrogate past year. Latent class growth analysis conducted groups of similar trajectories. Country consumption season. Seasonal daily intakes estimated based on concentrations foods. Retrospective analyses revealed that lowest winter, highest summer early fall months. Three latent classes (groups) trajectories identified: high (n = 20, 21%), moderate 38, 41%) low variation 35, 38%). Plasma omega-3 and psychological distress among Nunavik Inuit (Canada).

Marine omega-3 (n-3) fatty acid eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acids have been associated with beneficial effects in mental health. Cultural and social changes have been related to a decline in mental health of the Inuit, but the role of diet has received scant attention. We examined the relationship between psychological distress (PD) and plasma n-3 among 368 Nunavik Inuit ag...

Factors associated with cervical cancer screening uptake among Inuit women in Nunavik, Quebec, Canada

BACKGROUND The Canadian circumpolar Inuit population has a higher incidence rate of cervical cancer than the general population and the majority of cases occur among underscreened women. The objectives of this study were to determine Pap smear utilization rates and to determine factors associated with time-inappropriate use of cervical cancer screening among a cohort of Inuit women from Nunavik...

Environmental mercury exposure and blood pressure among Nunavik Inuit adults.

Epidemiological evidence suggests a negative impact of methylmercury on the cardiovascular system, but findings regarding the effect on blood pressure (BP) are not consistent. We aimed to study the impact of mercury levels on BP among Nunavik Inuit adults. The health survey Qanuippitaa? was conducted in Nunavik (northern Quebec, Canada), and data were obtained from 732 Inuit > or = 18 years of ...

Relation between Methylmercury Exposure and Plasma Paraoxonase Activity in Inuit Adults from Nunavik

BACKGROUND Methylmercury (MeHg) exposure has been linked to an increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). Paraoxonase 1 (PON1), an enzyme located in the high-density-lipoprotein (HDL) fraction of blood lipids, may protect against CHD by metabolizing toxic oxidized lipids associated with low-density liproprotein and HDL. MeHg has been shown to inhibit PON1 activity in vitro, but this effect...
