چکیده

Abstract Here, we present results from a study conducted in two major shrimp fishing grounds the Northeastern Brazil Marine Ecoregion (NBME) that determined reproductive dynamics of penaeid shrimps Xiphopenaeus kroyeri and Penaeus schmitti . We aimed to verify if current closed season is appropriate untangle environmental drivers control their dynamics. The periods recruitment reproduction both species overlap significantly, with spawning peak taking place dry wet season. process seem be indirectly controlled by onset rainfall season, which triggers an increase primary productivity. This indirect effect also appears affect growth increments positively. Our suggest evolved recruit spawn at as mechanisms maximize fitness. They highlight possible negative influence climate change tropical stocks local regulations must adjusted better protect them overfishing. Therefore, multiple possibilities (CFS) addressed decision‐makers reinforce parameters effects changes should considered when planning management measures.

Is recruitment related to spawning stock in penaeid shrimp fisheries?

The relationship between spawning stock and recruitment in penaeid shrimp fisheries has been questioned because they exhibit unique characteristics with respect to population dynamics and fisheries. This study used meta-analyses to test the null hypothesis that recruitment is a series of random, independent events based on the penaeid shrimp stocks found in published sources. Both the derivativ...

Mobility of tropical tunas and the implications for fisheries management

We apply an advection–diffusion reaction model to data from three different tuna tagging experiments in the western and central Pacific Ocean (WCPO) to reexamine the question of to what extent the population dynamics and spatial characteristics of tropical tunas require international cooperation for effective management. The median lifetime displacement of skipjack ranges from 420 to 470 nautic...

Molecular phylogeny of penaeid shrimps inferred from two mitochondrial markers.

Penaeid shrimps are an important resource in crustacean fisheries, representing more than the half of the gross production of shrimp worldwide. In the present study, we used a sample of wide-ranging diversity (41 shrimp species) and two mitochondrial markers (758 bp) to clarify the evolutionary relationships among Penaeidae genera. Three different methodologies of tree reconstruction were emplo...

A Method to Estimate the Stock-Recruitment Relationship of Shrimpsl

A procedure is proposed by which recruit numbers and parental biomass of shrimps stocks can be derived, given a series of catch-per-effort data and estimates of a few ancillary variables. In the Gulf of Thailand, shrimp recruitment decreased with decreasing egg production, but increased with decreasing total (mainly fish) standing stock. The net result of these counteracting effects was an over...
