Seasonal feeding habits and ontogenetic diet shift of black bullhead (Ameiurus melas) in Lake Sava (Serbia)

چکیده
The black bullhead is an invasive species that forms dense populations and has a negative impact on the native ichthyofauna. Recent studies indicate it one of most dominant fish in Serbian waters. Feeding habits based stomach contents individuals caught Lake Sava were analyzed as first step towards evaluating its possible fauna lake. following indices for diet analysis applied: vacuity index, frequency occurrence, numerical abundance prominence value. Trophic niche breadth seasonal trophic diversity calculated using Shannon?s index. spectrum comprised 16 different prey categories from five groups: Mollusca, Crustacea, Insecta, Teleostei plants. Fish main all seasons, followed by aquatic invertebrates. Plant material terrestrial insects used food relatively small quantities. Predation eggs was also detected. Our research confirmed this opportunistic generalist. An ontogenetic shift lowest value found age 1+ (H=1.39), while highest 3+ (H=2.00). widest recorded spring 2011 (H=2.12).

First record of the black bullhead Ameiurus melas (Teleostei: Ictaluridae) in Poland.
The North American catfish, the black bullhead Ameiurus melas, is recorded for the first time in Poland. The origin of these fish is not clear, but their presence may be associated with unregulated introductions by anglers.
متن کاملTransport and metabolism of glucose in isolated enterocytes of the black bullhead ictalurus melas: effects of diet and hormones
The uptake and metabolism of glucose were assessed in enterocytes isolated from black bullhead Ictalurus melas. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of diet and hormone treatment on glucose transport and metabolism, so the enterocyte was the most appropriate preparation. Glucose transport was estimated using specific inhibitors: glucose uptake measured in the presence of phlor...
متن کاملPollution-induced behavioural effects in the brown bullhead (Ameiurus nebulosus).
Aquatic ecosystems are major sinks for pollutants which can have adverse effects on biodiversity. Thus, it is important to understand the nature of pollution-induced change in aquatic ecosystems. We show that brown bullheads (Ameiurus nebulosus) may have evolved in response to chronic pollution exposure. We collected adults from the Detroit River (polluted site) and Belle River (control site). ...

Few studies have examined seasonal diet variation and trophic relationships among fishes in shallow subtropical waters. We sampled consecutive wet and dry seasons within Biscayne Bay, Florida, USA, to examine seasonal diet and feeding habit variation in juvenile gray snapper Lutjanus griseus (GS), bluestriped grunt Haemulon sciurus (BSG), seabream Archosargus rhomboidalis (SB) and great barracu...
متن کاملSpecies-specific markers provide molecular genetic evidence for natural introgression of bullhead catfishes in Hungary
Since three bullhead catfish species were introduced to Europe in the late 19th century, they have spread to most European countries. In Hungary, the brown bullhead (Ameiurus nebulosus) was more widespread in the 1970s-1980s, but the black bullhead (Ameiurus melas) has gradually supplanted since their second introduction in 1980. The introgressive hybridization of the two species has been presu...
