چکیده
A field experiment was conducted to study the seasonal incidence of spotted pod borer, Maruca vitrata in cowpea variety AVCP-1 at Entomology farm, B. A. College Agriculture, AAU, Anand during Kharif, 2021. The M. commenced from 6th week after sowing i.e. 4th August (34th SMW) with 0.60 larva/plant and gradually increased reached its first peak (3.51 larvae/plant) highest (6.97 1st September (36th 2nd October (41st when crop age 8th 13th weeks old, respectively. Thereafter, population declined towards maturity. Concerned damage on pods cowpea, it recorded between 8.63 59.93% per plant. maximum plant observed second peak. had highly significant negative correlation wind speed (-0.882**) whereas, bright sunshine hours (0.586*) temperature (0.625*) showed positive association cowpea. Furthermore, worked out that hours, each contributed 11, 10.9 68.2% variation larval population,

Sex pheromone recognition and characterization of three pheromone-binding proteins in the legume pod borer, Maruca vitrata Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)
Pheromone-binding proteins (PBPs) are essential for the filtering, binding and transporting of sex pheromones across sensillum lymph to membrane-associated pheromone receptors of moths. In this study, three novel PBP genes were expressed in Escherichia coli to examine their involvement in the sex pheromone perception of Maruca vitrata. Fluorescence binding experiments indicated that MvitPBP1-3 ...
متن کاملNew Artificial Diet for Continuous Rearing of the Bean Pod Borer, Maruca vitrata
The bean pod borer, Maruca vitrata Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), is a serious pantropical pest of grain legumes. A suitable artificial diet is desirable for producing uniform insects for commercial purposes or research. Three previously described artificial diets, 1 newly-developed artificial diet, and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. (Fabales: Fabaceae)), the natural hostplant of M. ...
متن کاملMitochondrial Genome Sequence and Expression Profiling for the Legume Pod Borer Maruca vitrata (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)
We report the assembly of the 14,054 bp near complete sequencing of the mitochondrial genome of the legume pod borer (LPB), Maruca vitrata (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), which we subsequently used to estimate divergence and relationships within the lepidopteran lineage. The arrangement and orientation of the 13 protein-coding, 2 rRNA, and 19 tRNA genes sequenced was typical of insect mitochondrial D...
متن کاملIdentification of Host-Plant Volatiles and Characterization of Two Novel General Odorant-Binding Proteins from the Legume Pod Borer, Maruca vitrata Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)
Chemoreception is a key feature in selection of host plant by phytophagous insects, and odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) are involved in chemical communication of both insects and vertebrates. The legume pod borer, Maruca vitrata Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is one of the key pest species of cowpea and widely distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions, causing up to 80% of yie...

This study was undertaken to assess the genetic diversity and host plant races of M. vitrata population in South and Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene was used to understand the phylogenetic relationship of geographically different M. vitrata population, but previous studies did not include population from Southeast Asia, the probable center o...
