Search for MeV electron recoils from dark matter in EXO-200

نویسندگان

چکیده

We present a search for electron-recoil signatures from the charged-current absorption of fermionic dark matter using EXO-200 detector. report an average electron recoil background rate $6.8 \times 10^{-4}\, \mathrm{cts}\,\mathrm{kg}^{-1}\mathrm{yr}^{-1}\mathrm{keV}^{-1}$ above $4\,\mathrm{MeV}$ and find no statistically significant excess over our projection. Using total ${}^{136}\mathrm{Xe}$ exposure $234.1\,\mathrm{kg}\,\mathrm{yr}$ we exclude new parameter space cross-section masses between $m_\chi = 2.6\,\mathrm{MeV} - 11.6\,\mathrm{MeV}$ with minimum $6\times 10^{-51}\,\mathrm{cm}^2$ at $8.3\,\mathrm{MeV}$ $90\%$ confidence level.

Scintillation efficiency of nuclear recoils in a CaF2(Eu) crystal for dark matter search

The scintillation efficiency (quenching factor) of fluorine and calcium nuclei recoiling in a CaF2(Eu) crystal was measured in an energy region relevant to dark matter searches. The recoiling nuclei were obtained via the 19F(n,n’) and 40Ca(n,n’) reactions, where the neutron beam was provided via the d(d,n)3He reaction. The quenching factor of F and Ca nuclei in the CaF2(Eu) crystal was found to...

Search for Dark Matter

We know a lot about dark matter (DM). First of all we know it exists: modified gravity models cannot explain the spatial segregation between the regions where most of the mass is and where most of the visible matter is in the “bullet cluster” [1] (a cluster formed by two colliding galaxies). In this cluster, the regions where most of the gravitational potential is (as mapped though gravitationa...

MeV-mass dark matter and primordial nucleosynthesis

The annihilation of new dark matter candidates with masses mX in the MeV range may account for the galactic positrons that are required to explain the 511 keV γ-ray flux from the galactic bulge. We study the impact of MeV-mass thermal relic particles on the primordial synthesis of H, He, and Li. If the new particles are in thermal equilibrium with neutrinos during the nucleosynthesis epoch they...

Possible evidence for MeV dark matter in dwarf spheroidals.

The observed 511 keV emission from the galactic bulge could be due to very light (MeV) annihilating dark matter particles. To distinguish this hypothesis from conventional astrophysical sources, we study dwarf spheroidals in the region observed by the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory/SPI such as Sagittarius. As these galaxies have comparatively few stars, the prospects for 511 ke...

Indirect Search for Dark Matter

Possible dark matter candidates are reviewed as well as indirect search methods based on annihilation or decay channels of these particles. Neutralino is presently the best particle candidate and its annihilation produces high energy neutrinos, antiprotons, positrons and γ -rays. To date, only upper limits on neutrino fluxes from the center of the Earth or the Sun, were established by different...
