Screening of Helicobacter pylori in patients with dyspeptic complaints with the urea breath test and its usability in family medicine

Objective: Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) is a common cause of gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, gastric lymphoma, and cancer. H.pylori positive in patients with dyspeptic complaints should be investigated order to determine the etiology reduce risk H.pylori-related malignancy. The urea breath test (UBT) simple, convenient, highly accurate screening excellent sensitivity specificity. utility UBT as family medicine was examined this study, that at complaints. Method: A retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive, single-center study conducted. results C14-UBT for were by scanning archives over age 18 who applied an education research hospital within calendar year. In evaluation results, ≥50cpm considered positive, <25cpm negative, 25-50cpm suspicious. Results: findings 1192 included, acceptability rate 83 percent. average participants 48.7±15.3 years, 61 percent them being women 39 men. 81.5cpm on (IQR=214, min=0, max=909). According findings, 56 (n=667) tested H.pylori, 43.2 (n=515) negative 0.8 (n=10) suspicious H.pylori. Although 56.4 55.3 males there no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Conclusion: conducted large group patients, positivity found 56% UBT. Considering result, it has been evaluated that, cases where World Health Organization recommends screening, but alarm symptoms, screened Family Centers important preventive healthcare service.
