Screening of bacteria in Yarık Sinkhole, Antalya, Turkey for carbonate dissolution, biomineralization and biotechnological potentials

Abiotic and biotic factors, especially microorganisms, play a role in the development of cave formations existence unique characteristics each cave. Due to ecological conditions that characterize environments, highly specialized microorganisms are main source diverse bioactive compounds, inhabit these environments. The aim this study is determine biotechnological potential bacteria isolated from Yarık Sinkhole located Antalya (Turkey) by screening their ability induce CaCO3 precipitation, hydrolyze urea, calcite dissolution, possession NRPS/PKS gene clusters. most prevalent phylum Bacillota (synonym Firmicutes) (75.7 %), while dominant species Bacillus pumilus (33 %). All isolates showed crystal formation on B4 agar medium, Energy dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy (EDS) analyses crystals predominately composed calcium, carbon oxygen. Ninety-six (96 %) our have negative ureolytic activity. According result having bac­teria environment use other biosynthesis pathways than urea hydrolysis. MgCO3 were dissolved 61 % 59 isolates, respectively. In addition, 5.9 53.7 PKS NRPS genes, This reveals high in­dustrial potential. They may constitute good candidates for further applications such as construction bio-concretes, bioremediation, soil fertility, production biologically active secondary metabolites.
