Screening of antimicrobial synergism between phenolic acids derivatives and UV-A light radiation

چکیده
The objective of this study was to investigate synergistic antibacterial activity based on a combination UV-A light and three classes food grade compounds: benzoic acid derivatives, cinnamic gallates. By using Escherichia coli O157:H7 as the model strain, it observed that derivatives (ferulic acid, coumaric caffeic acid) one derivative (2,5-dihydroxybenzoic presented strong with radiation, where 1 mM levels these compounds plus 15 min (total dose 6.1 cm−2) led more than 7-log CFU mL−1 bacterial inactivation. In contrast, between most (benzoic gallic vanillic 2,5-dimethoxybenzoic were only after higher concentrations applied (10 mM). Lastly, from gallates tested (methyl gallate, ethyl propyl gallate), gallate showed synergism light, 10 approximately 6.5-log reduction. Presence antioxidant mitigated light-mediated 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic gallate. Similarly, significantly (P < 0.05) reduced against metabolic-inhibited cells (sodium azide pretreatment). On other hand, ferulic not affected by presence antioxidants or metabolic state cells. Due increasing concerns antimicrobial resistant (AMR) pathogens, also investigated proposed treatment AMR Salmonella. Combinations radiation able inactivate 6-log multi-drug Salmonella Typhimurium strain.

Screening of various phenolic acids and flavonoid derivatives for their anticholinesterase potential.
Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most common form of dementia, is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive cognitive deterioration together with declining activities of daily living and neuropsychiatric symptoms or behavioural changes. The oldest, on which most currently available drug therapies are based, is known as the "cholinergic hypothesis" and suggests that AD begins as a de...
متن کاملAnticholinesterase activity of phenolic acids and their derivatives.
The ability of 36 phenolic acids and their derivatives to inhibit acetyl- and butyrylcholinesterase was studied. The most efficient acetylcholine inhibitors were: carnosic acid = gentisic acid > 3-hydroxy-4-methoxycinnamic acid = ethyl ferulate = ethyl vanillate = nordihydroguaiaretic acid > ethyl 4-hydroxybenzoate = methyl ferulate. The order of effectiveness towards butyrylcholinesterase was:...

متن کامل7 Visible Light and UV Radiation
The sun is the most important source of visible and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Even though the distance from the sun to the Earth is large – about 150×10 km – the fluence rate of solar radiation on Earth, the solar constant, is about 1 360 W/m 2 . Approximately 40% of this radiation is reflected back into space. The remaining 60% is the driving force of all life on Earth. A number of pigments ...
