Science Autonomy and Space Science: Application to the ExoMars Mission

چکیده
A machine learning approach for analyzing data from the Mars Organic Molecule Analyzer (MOMA) instrument has been developed in order to improve accuracy and efficiency of this analysis serves as a case study use tools space missions. MOMA is part science payload aboard ExoMars rover, Rosalind Franklin, currently planned land on 2023. Most NASA robotic missions return only one thing: data. Remote planetary continue produce more mission ambitions capabilities grow, yet investigations are still limited by available bandwidth transmit back Earth. Autonomous science for an ExoMars Rover-like mission
In common with other Mars exploration missions, human supervision of Europe's ExoMars Rover will be mostly indirect via orbital relay spacecraft and thus far from immediate. The gap between issuing commands and witnessing the results of the consequent rover actions will typically be on the order of several hours or even sols. In addition, it will not be possible to observe the external environm...
متن کاملThe Science of Pamela Space Mission
Many different mechanisms can contribute to antiprotons and positrons production, ranging from conventional reactions up to exotic processes like neu-tralino annihilation. The open problems are so fundamental (i.e.: is the universe symmetric in matter and antimatter ?) that experiments in this field will probably be of the greatest interest in the next years. Here we will summarize the present ...
متن کاملTo Appear in the Rosetta Mission—space Science Review
We describe the design, performance and scientific objectives of the NASA-funded ALICE instrument aboard the ESA Rosetta asteroid flyby/comet rendezvous mission. ALICE is a lightweight, low-power, and low-cost imaging spectrograph optimized for cometary far-ultraviolet (FUV) spectroscopy. It will be the first UV spectrograph to study a comet at close range. It is designed to obtain spatially-re...
متن کاملScientific autonomy and planned research: the case of space science
Scientific research that requires space flight has always been subject to comparatively strong external control. Its agenda has often had to be adapted to vacillating political target specifications. Can space scientists appeal to one or the other form of the widely acknowledged principle of freedom of research in order to claim more autonomy? In this paper, the difficult question of autonomy w...
