چکیده
The remote tracking of endangered animals is often justified by the application movement data to conservation problems, but examples where scientific findings have rapidly informed actions are relatively rare. In this study we satellite tracked 30 adult female hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) that were captured after nesting in Arnavon Community Marine Park (ACMP), Solomon Islands. Ten tagged April 2016, ten May 2017 and November 2018. Our primary aim was determine if ACMP boundaries demarcated 1995 large enough protect throughout their entire season. home range analysis revealed collectively, spent 98.5% inter-nesting season within ACMP, confirming original park adequate. first year's results shared with community government stakeholders assisted getting declared as Islands national 2017. fine scale habitats also highlighted most turtle nests being laid on an island did not a permanent ranger presence experiencing persistent poaching. Based finding additional station established uninhabited staffed rangers demonstrates how involving community, NGO applied research can lead utilised inform policy practice soon they become available.

Conservation of Hawksbill Sea Turtles: Perceptions and Realities
sea turtle species survive in only a limited area of its natural range. Sea turtles must occur throughout their natural ranges to ensure that they fulfill their ecological roles. For example, hawksbills are primary predators in coral reef ecosystems and thus assist in maintaining the biodiversity and ecological processes of these complex ecosystems. Unfortunately, as is made all too clear in th...

متن کاملHigh rates of growth recorded for hawksbill sea turtles in Anegada, British Virgin Islands
Management of species of conservation concern requires knowledge of demographic parameters, such as rates of recruitment, survival, and growth. In the Caribbean, hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) have been historically exploited in huge numbers to satisfy trade in their shells and meat. In the present study, we estimated growth rate of juvenile hawksbill turtles around Anegada, British...
متن کاملCan satellite - based night lights be used for conservation ? The case of nesting sea turtles in the Mediterranean
Artificial night lights pose a major threat to multiple species. However, this threat is often disregarded in conservation management and action because it is difficult to quantify its effect. Increasing availability of high spatial-resolution satellite images may enable us to better incorporate this threat into future work, particularly in highly modified ecosystems such as the coastal zone. I...

Elucidating spatio-temporal movements of animals is an integral component of wildlife conservation and protected species management. Between 2008 and 2010 we satellite tracked 15 adult female hawksbill turtles Eretmochelys imbricata in the eastern Pacific Ocean to evaluate their movement behavior and to guide management and conservation efforts of this highly endangered population. Movements an...
